Turkish Straits: Transit time increased to 168 hours

The Turkish authorities have on 28 July 2017 implemented a new rule stating that the maximum stopover period has been increased from 48 hours to 168 hours, i.e. 7 days.

This means that a vessel will have a longer period of time before its “in transit” status is broken while passing the Bosphorus and Dardanelles Straits, and the vessels will now be able to remain within the designated anchorage areas for crew change, bunkering, provisions, repairs and other necessary operations for 7 days subject to the permission of the authorities.

The information above has been provided by the Turkish Lawfirm Ersoy Bilgehan.
