Cases (new)
As most Workshop Leaders are aware, the original MRM cases are now pretty old and we have lacked good cases aimed at engineers and other target groups. With the addition of new cases, we aim at meeting two important objectives:
- Understanding of that lack of MRM may lead to incidents and losses irrespective of occupation and assignment, whether one works onboard or ashore.
- Understanding of that lack of MRM is a common factor in accidents that happen today - not only in the past.
Among the thousands of incidents that occur each year, how do we select cases for the MRM web? This is a challenge but we will follow certain guidelines.
We will:
- Initially use cases published by third-party accident investigators, claims handled by The Swedish Club or cases supplied by MRM training providers.
- Focus on the types of incidents that occur often.
- Make sure that all target groups shall find cases relevant to them.
- Publish well-known cases with major consequences as well as minor incidents and near misses.
- Categorize the cases in types of incident - such as collision, fire, machinery, pollution etc.
- Publish clear guidelines and information that will assist Workshop Leaders in finding cases depending on the target group.
- Publish the full report, or a link to the full report, as it is. By not reworking the cases into the MRM course layout we will make the sources clearly visible and avoid a possible feeling that the case has been reworked or shortened to fit a certain purpose. Publishing reports from various third-party sources will also increase the credibility of the course. Where available, photos and videos will be published.
This section will be continuously expanded with new cases and we encourage Workshop Leaders who come across useful cases to inform us about them. The first case in this section was published on 31st March 2010.
