Philippines - Warning of wet nickel ore cargo in bulk
We received the following information from our local correspondent, Pandiman Philippines, Inc., on the situation in the Philippines regarding the loading of nickel ore.
Many vessels have not loaded nickel ore for nearly two weeks due to rainfalls. In addition, mines are in bitter conflict with DENR, and mines facing potential closure/suspension are keen to ship out as much nickel ore as they can, which is coupled with panic buying, all adding more pressure on ship owners to make sure that proper pre-loading surveys are conducted. Please note that cargo documentation should be checked and cargo sampling and testing for moisture content should be conducted as near as practicable to the time of loading, in accordance with the IMSBC Code. All members are advised to contact local correspondents immediately if they experience any problems.
In this regard we wish to make our Members aware of our previous alert pertaining to warnings of wet nickel ore cargo shipped from the Philippines. Please see our previous Member Alert for more information and directions as to ensuring a safe loading/proper inspection of nickel ore.
