Fremantle Maritime Simulation Centre to train pilots and tug masters in MRM
We are pleased to announce that Fremantle Maritime Simulation Centre (FMSC) in Australia today joined the MRM network.
FMSC is a state-of-the-art simulation facility, providing access to specialist marine pilot consultancy, in Fremantle, West Australia. FMSC offers excellent maritime and training expertise and experience, with most FMSC staff active pilots with decades of experience.
Rory Main, FMSC’s Managing Director, made the following statement about the Maritime Resource Management course:
“The course addresses many of the bridge team matters which we believe to be crucial in successful pilotage. Our facility provides training to Pilots and Tug Masters in Western Australia. Pilots from the following ports attend training: Port of Fremantle, Port of Geraldton, Port of Bunbury, Esperance Port and the Port of Darwin. In addition we provide training to pilots employed by Woodside, BP, West Coast Pilots, Rio Tinto and Chevron.
Many of the ports also send Tug Masters for training. We find the joint workshops with Tug Masters’ and Pilots provides an environment for dialogue on the capabilities of the ship and tug in conducting manoeuvres at the limit of the operational parameters for the port. Some local shipping/tug companies also attend ship/tug handling courses at FMSC.
Our aim is to provide the course in addition to the ship/tug handling courses we normally offer. The aim is to encourage pilots and tug masters from different ports and regions to interact and share experiences within the framework of the MRM course.”
