Based on recent newspaper reports, the government is adamant to remain consistent in applying the ban of mineral export said come into force 12th January 2014. The latest announcement made by the Authorities in Indonesia is to emphasise that the government is committed to enforce the ban as per the Law No.4 of 2009 Mineral Mining and Coal. Spica is seeking clarification from the relevant Authorities as to the likelihood of the forthcoming ban on mineral exports being enforced. For the time being, the situation remains unclear.
In the meantime, Members whose vessels are due to load unrefined mined products from Indonesian ports should be aware of the ban that is due to have effect from 12 January 2014, and take steps to satisfy themselves that the shippers are in possession of a valid permit to export the cargo in accordance with any new regulations.
