Fire risks when shipping vehicles and refrigeration units
7 Aug – Cars and other vehicles carried on board ships present a risk of fire, as does the carriage of refrigeration units. Our Loss Prevention team are presenting some claim’s cases regarding the issue.

Latest figures on misrepresented Bills of Lading from IMB
7 Aug –  Analysis of the Bills of Lading (BsL) referred to International Maritime Bureau (IMB) during Q2 shows that the Iran trade accounted for over 70% of the misrepresented BsL.

U.S increase sanctions against Venezuela
8 Aug – On 5th August 2019 President Trump issued Executive Order 13884. The Order targets the government of Venezuela and blocks all its assets and property in the U.S. The Order also prohibits the Venezuelan government to use the US financial system.

CCI updates on the piracy situation in West Africa
 9 Aug – Active information sharing between clusters of countries and regions in West Africa is a positive way forward in tackling piracy in the Gulf of Guinea, according to the Commercial Crime International (CCI) August newsletter.

16 Aug – The new IMB Bulletin highlights the problem with misdeclared hazardous goods and that carriers have started to impose fines against shippers in order to combat the practice.

22 Aug – Wet damage on cargo is a common problem at sea. Seawater may ingress into cargo holds in bad condition and cause serious damage.

Stowaways in South Africa
22 Aug – No stowaways will be permitted to be landed in South African ports, according to a new sharpened policy from the immigration authority.

MSS Case September: At anchor during a typhoon resulting in a grounding and total loss
30 Aug –  In the Monthly Safety Scenario Case of September, the importance of the crew being aware of the equipment limitations is being highlighted. In this case the anchoring equipment was overloaded in a typhoon.
