Revised: Taiwan: Restricted Navigation due to Military Exercises – Warning Zones
The Maritime and Port Bureau MOTC of Taiwan issued a Notice to Mariners on 3 August 2022 in response to China's decision earlier to conduct military exercises in areas around Taiwan.
The duration of the military exercise is three days, starting from noon of 4 August 2022 until noon of 7 August 2022.
From the Notice, it will be noted that the warning zones are very close to Taiwan's major commercial ports, including Keelung, Suao, Taipei, Kaohsiung, Anping, Hoping and Hualien. Therefore, the navigation and safety will be affected.
Some of the warning zones are within the VTS range of the various ports, and the port control bureau has set up a warning range. If a vessel enters the zone, it will prompt a warning by the port VTS and be requested to leave as soon as possible to avoid any accidents. However, as the power of radar and radio is limited, vessels should be careful to avoid entering the warning zones and should take alternative routes to avoid these zones.
Members planning to trade their vessels to Taiwan during this period of time are advised to take careful note of below coordinates of the warning zones:
