
P&I Claims Executive – Team Asia
Opportunity in P&I claims
Our operation is divided into four teams, located in Gothenburg, Piraeus, Hong Kong and Oslo. We are now looking for a Senior Claims Executive with special emphasis on P&I to join Team Asia in Hong Kong.
Work Description
In this role you are responsible for the handling of P&I claims and for providing advice to our members in various matters related to the insurance. You will also handle some claims under the marine policies such as Hull & Machinery and Loss of Hire. The working tasks include:
- Handling all sorts of P&I and Marine claims as required including:
– Investigating claims and assessing proper reserves
– Instructing surveyors, correspondents, experts and lawyers
– Determining insurance cover
– Evaluating the merits of each case
– Conducting negotiations
– Approval and payment of claims / fees
- Providing advice in relation to the P&I Insurance to members
- Making presentations and writing articles for the Club’s publications
The job includes some travelling and extensive day-to-day interaction with shipowners, managers and insurance brokers in the Team Asia’s market.
Place of work
The place of work is our office in Hong Kong.
Qualifications
Education: We are primarily looking for candidates with degrees in Law and Nautical Science. A Master Mariner qualification or a Master in Maritime Law is considered an advantage but not a requirement.
Experience: At least five years’ working experience from practicing P&I claims is required. Preferably, you have worked for a P&I Club. Claims work for a marine shipping company / manager or the marine insurance sector in general is also a suitable background. We believe that you are an all-round P&I claims handler with solid experience from cargo, personal injury and pollution claims and that you are familiar with RDC and FFO claims.
Language: You have to be fluent in English orally and in writing and knowledge of Chinese is also important.
Other qualities: You need to be a good co-ordinator with excellent communication and social skills. The work also requires an analytical mind coupled with an ability of giving priority to the right things.
