The Swedish Club hosted the annual meeting for The Swedish Maritime Law Association

The Swedish Maritime Law Association is an organisation with the aim to promote knowledge of maritime and transport law and to facilitate contacts between legal scholars and practising lawyers in this field.

The Association was founded by a merger of the previous associations, The Gothenburg Maritime Law Association and the Swedish Association for International Maritime Law in Stockholm. It publishes maritime and transport law literature in its own series and responds to questionnaires put forward by the Government and authorities responsible for maritime and transport legislation.

The Association has about 250 members, both private persons and companies, and is a member of the Comité Maritime International (CMI).

The annual meeting was held at the “Långedrag’s Wärdshus”, where the evening ended with mingling and dinner.

The Chairman, Jörgen Almelöv, congratulated Malin Högberg, Claims Executive, P&I and FD&D from The Swedish Club. Malin is fortunate to receive this year’s scholarship for young lawyers and will attend the next CMI conference in New York later this year. Well done, Malin.

After the meeting, Andreas Andersson, from the Swedish Sea Rescue Society, presented how the “little yellow” rescue boats worked in the Mediterranean to save the lives of refugees. A heart-breaking presentation which left no one untouched; the conditions are indescribable for the women, children and men crossing the sea in poor rubber boats and horrendous weather. The Association thanked Andreas by donating to the Swedish Sea Rescue Society.
