Australia – Accelerated Phase Out of Single-Hulled Tankers

C.R.Cox & Associates, Australia, has provided us with the following information.

The Australian Authorities have issued a notice No: 13/2004 which states that from April 2005 heavy grade oil i.e. Crude / fuel oils with density higher than 900kg/m³ at 15°C in single hull tankers will not be allowed to enter Australian ports / offshore terminals.

The circular also states that though a Flag State may have epted a tanker from Regulation 13H Amex 1 of Marpol 73/78 the Australian Authorities will deny entry to single hull tankers carrying heavy grade oil. Tanker owners are requested to refer to AMSA marine notice 13/2004, if any further enquires please contact C.R.Cox & Associates (Aust.)
