CINS guidance on stowage of dangerous goods on container vessels

The Cargo Incident Notification System (CINS) has published a document on stowage and segregation of dangerous goods on container vessels: Safety Considerations for Ship Operators Related to Risk-Based Stowage of Dangerous Goods on Containerships.

The document is developed in response to recent years’ serious fire incidents on container vessels, often caused by misdeclaration of cargo. CINS, which consists of the world’s biggest  container line companies, states that the document is considered to be a first stage in a collective industry approach.

It provides supplementary guidance to the requirements of SOLAS and the IMDG code on stowage of dangerous goods. The target audience is ship operators, cargo carriers and port personnel.
