We have been advised by Prime Ministry of Turkish Republic, Under secretariat for Maritime Affairs, Istanbul Region Directorate, Istanbul Port Authority’s fax message dated 24.04.08 that Prime Ministry of Turkish Republic and Marmaray Marine Working Group strongly recommends to have pilot on board during North-South, South-North passages in transit.
As you might be aware of Marmaray Project which is a part of Istanbul’s transport project, and within boundaries of the work which is carried out in Bosphorus, the passages taking place as one-way traffic. With effect from 20-21st of April 2008 red & green lateral buoys’ places changed and navigation corridor shifted to East, relevant coordinates of the buoys should be noted as per below:
R1 41 01 14 N – 29 00 10 E
R2 41 01 47 N – 29 00 11 E
R3 41 01 68 N – 29 00 38 E
G4 41 01 21 N – 28 59 83 E
G5 41 01 50 N – 28 59 84 E
With reference to above changes, navigation corridor got narrowed. Please also note current is stronger on new sailing line. In addition to intense local traffic, together with passenger vessels calling at Port of Karaköy Salýpazarý and cargo vessels calling at Port of Haydarpasa; due to not to risk life, cargo and navigation safety it is strongly recommended to have pilot on board during North-South, South-North passages in transit.
