USCG New Orleans – Safety Zone due to oil spill
Murphy, Rogers, Sloss & Gambel, New Orleans, US, has provided us with the following information.
Quote
The Captain of the Port New Orleans, under the authority of the Port and Waterways Safety Act, has established a Safety Zone on the Lower Mississippi River (LMR), Above Head of Passes, from Mile Marker 99 to Mile Marker 70, extending the entire width of the river due to a collision on the river and the release of heavy oil. Due to the nature of the spill, the Safety Zone may continue to move down river. This Safety Zone is needed to protect persons and vessels from the potential safety hazards associated with the spillage of oil near Mile Marker 97.
The Safety Zone will be in effect until further notice. All vessels are prohibited from entering this zone until the restriction is lifted by the COTP New Orleans.
