Capt. Hilmar Snorrason who has been an MRM Facilitator since 2007 explains:

“For me as a Facilitator, is it important to participate in an MRM Facilitator training regularly. The MRM training is one of the most important factors in creating a safe culture onboard a ship and in the working environment in the Maritime field. MRM should also be implemented into shore-based operations for the ultimate result of building a safe culture. The workshop was very informative and it helps me to develop much further as a moderator for MRM courses.”

“Mr. Martin Hernqvist provides an excellent MRM Train the trainer Facilitator. The underlining idea how to implement MRM in daily practice is a fine basis for us as marine pilots”, commented Capt. Daniel Netsere who is a pilot from the Netherlands and will be taking over the facilitation of the MRM courses at STODEL.

“Good food for thought” -Capt. Freek Muurling, MRM Facilitator for 7 years

Furetank Rederi AB, a Swedish Club member who recently joined the MRM campaign, had the biggest group during the event and Capt. Per-Anders Höglund, head of party, concluded, “I am convinced that MRM will be a good tool for our company to improve the crew’s awareness towards Zero incidents. It was great to share experiences with other participants and listen to their experiences on MRM implementation. The MRM Facilitator training was conducted in a very good manner. These experiences and learnings will be brought back to the management for implementation in our organisation. I learned that the work with training and educating people in our organisation not only onboard the ships but also at the head office will give results in fewer incidents. The MRM course will also result in improved retention rates because people will be more motivated knowing that the company has a good attitude towards safety improvement. The shipping owner’s goal is to have a NO Tiger captains onboard. Everybody onboard is and will be trained to “Challenge” an order they know that is wrong from the briefing conducted. We are interested in a 3-hour introduction to MRM course for the top Management or even to the crew onboard.”

In general, the training event was well-received by the participants and good feedbacks as well as improvement areas have been noted for the future events as the Academy strives only for excellence. With the success of yet another MRM Facilitator training event, it is a feather in the cap for The Swedish Club Academy.
