Claims Executive FD&D — Team Asia, Hong Kong

We are looking for a lawyer with at least 5 years working experience who is eager to work in the field of marine insurance.

Our operation is divided into four teams, two located in Gothenburg, one in Piraeus and one in Hong Kong. Each team is responsible for members within a certain geographical area and has all necessary resources to deliver high quality services in relation to all classes of insurance offered by the Club. As a member of The Swedish Club staff you will experience an international and stimulating business environment. Ships trading on a worldwide basis continuously offer new situations and a changing legal environment puts increasing demands on insurance.

 Work Description
As an FD&D Claims Executive you are responsible for the handling of FD&D claims and providing legal advice to our members. The working tasks include:

  • Communicating with members on claims or disputes arising
  • Evaluating the merits of a claim
  • Provide legal advice to the members
  • Register claims and assess proper reserves
  • Instructing correspondents, lawyers, surveyors or experts for investigation or giving evidence
  • Negotiating settlement of claims
  • Conducting and attending arbitration or litigation proceedings including drafting of claims submissions
  • Meetings with members for the purpose of discussing claims, providing advice or education
  • Making presentations and holding seminars.

The job offers travelling and constant communication with shipowners and Ship managers in the region, primarily China. The major markets of Team Asia are China, Singapore, Japan and Thailand.

 Place of work
The place of work is our office in Hong Kong. You are responsible for retaining and upholding a relevant working permit.

Qualifications
This position is offered to you who have a law degree and at least five years working experience from practicing maritime law with a law firm or a P&I Club. Preferably, you are a qualified solicitor or barrister and you have solid experience from charterparty disputes and arbitration. You have to be fluent in English and Mandarin speaking is an advantage. The job also requires excellent social and cultural skills and a proactive work style.
