Cargo in focus: Bagged rice
In collaboration with the cargo experts at CWA International, The Swedish Club has produced cargo advice to assist our members in the daily operation of their vessels.
This month, we wish to highlight the bagged rice cargoes. One of the most common sources of cargo claims is the bagged rice trade from Asia to West Africa. The top three rice exporters are India, Thailand and Vietnam. Bagged rice cargoes from all Asian rice exporting nations are often subject to claims at discharge.
This is partly due to the inherent risk of condensation associated with the voyage route. By adhering to the recommendations given in the advice, the risk of suffering a claim will be reduced.
