US Vessel Response Plan – Alaska and Oregon update
9 August – Members are informed that a third APC provider, Alaska Response Company (ARC), has now been approved by the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) covering the Western Alaska COTP Zone (including the Aleutians, Bristol Bay and Kodiak Island sub-areas) for international traffic coming either from a US port or going to a US port and/or transiting the Pacific Great Circle Route.

Zika virus – updated information
12 August – US Coast Guard has issued a bulletin on the Zika virus concerning, inter alia, US requirements in case of any incidents on board vessels.

New requirements for ballast water management (BWM)
5 August – From 16 Jun, 2016, Australia will accept the use of BWM System (BWMS) which received Type Approval through IMO process.
Port Situation: Yemen
4 August – On Tuesday 2 August, the Ash Shihr Oil Terminal started operations when an oil tanker under the GAC Yemen agency arrived at the terminal for loading a shipment of the Masila Crude.

Aboa Mare hosts MRM Train the Trainer event in Turku, Finland
11 August – The first MRM Train the Trainer event after the summer holidays was held in Turku, Finland on 9 August 2016. The event was hosted by Aboa Mare Academy and Training Centre, one of our training providers based in Finland with a total of 16 participants taking part in the training.
