MSS Case November: Poorly planned maintenance led to engine room flooding

In the Monthly Safety Scenario Case of November, an electrical problem calls for an inspection in the engine room. The critical job, checking the anodes of the system, is not planned carefully and ends up in a major flooding of the engine room.

This scenario started with the MGPS (Marine Growth Prevention System) alarmed and the duty engineer could see that there was an electrical problem.

A similar electrical problem had occurred a couple of months earlier and had been rectified by the crew. The chief engineer was informed, and he instructed an oiler to do an inspection to see if there were any loose wire cables inside the anode assembly….
